Yayasan Titian Masa Depan, also known as Titian Foundation, was established by Lily Kasoem in 2006. She was the catalyst behind the gigantic project worth USD 1.6 million to rebuild Lamreh Village in Aceh that was destroyed by 2004 tsunami. Titian is a professionally managed voluntary organisation that focuses on helping the less fortunate Indonesians through the improvement of their education, knowledge and skills. Partnering with NGO’s governments, multinationals and local companies, Titian provides long-term sustainable support in communities which have been struck by poverty, disaster or conflict. Its involvement is to provide the tools for ongoing stability and self sufficiency.
In 2007, Titian Foundation rebuilt two schools in Bayat, Central Java which were devastated by the Jogja Earthquake. Titian Foundation is governed by a Board of Officers on pro bono basis. Numerous professional volunteers also lend their minds to develop and run various projects. All projects are funded by donation from companies and individuals. It is the mandate of The Foundation that 100% of donations received go directly to the projects.
How We Started
The Titian Foundation was established by Lily Kasoem in 2006. as project manager for Soroptimist International, Lily was the driving force behind a USD 1.6 million venture to rebuild Lamreh, a village in Aceh that was devastated by the 2004 tsunami. Although she initially went to Aceh to see how she could lend a helping hand after the tsunami, she discovered how much she enjoyed working in the field. She also experienced first hand the advantages of being with smaller organization because it allowed for quick decision making and minimized bureaucracy during project where time was of the essence.
When the earthquake hit Central Java in 2006, Lily realized that she had another opportunity to help. She started The Titian Foundation with an objective to help people – especially during times of disaster or emergency – to strengthen their livelihoods in a sustainable way.
Titian is governed by a Board of Officers that runs its operations on a pro bono basis. Titian’s charter also stipulates that 100% of donations received go directly fund the various project.
